Rwanda Sovu Women's Group

Sourcing this coffee our third successive year, championing the incredible work from some of Rwanda's finest female run co-operatives, this year's selection is from a farming community in the southern province of Huye District, Sovu Women's Coffee. Sourced from extraordinary elevations of 1760masl, a delicate washed process Red Bourbon.

This special micro-lot was produced using coffee cherry from 34 women farmers who own and grow coffee on small farms in the hills surrounding Sovu Washing Station. The women are members of the Abizerwa, meaning 'trusted people' Women's Group, a women-led alliance within the Abahuzamugabi Ba Kawa Maraba Collective.

The delicate features of this coffee had us focused on developing the soft, sweet nature of its flavour profile, careful not to over- or under-develop these nuanced characteristics. We found its ultimate sweet spot brings out a rich, honeyed sweetness and a super soft, tea-like body, with flavour notes of apricot jam, nectarine and maple syrup. The cup is sweet and elegant, with a gentle florality and a clean, lingering finish.
