A delightfully sweet red bourbon from Maraba and the Sovu washing station. One of Rwanda’s original coffee co-ops, this remarkable micro-lot delivers sweet, clean, and juicy flavours in every cup. 

Sovu has consistently earned accolades, including several Cup of Excellence awards, for its outstanding coffee of exceptional quality.

Our Rwandan Women’s Coffee Series showcases a selection of the best women-owned micro-lots from producers who have pioneered the rebuild of the Rwandan coffee industry.

Following the country’s devastating past, these producers have led the regeneration of coffee farming, creating economic opportunities and improving quality through training, infrastructure, and collaboration.   • Roaster's Notes

    Sourcing this coffee our second successive year, championing the incredible work from some of Rwanda's finest female run co-operatives, this year's selection is from a farming community in the southern province of Huye District, Sovu Women's Coffee. Sourced from extraordinary elevations of 1760masl, a delicate washed process Red Bourbon.

    This special micro-lot was produced using coffee cherry from 34 women farmers who own and grow coffee on small farms in the hills surrounding Sovu Washing Station. The women are members of the Abizerwa, meaning 'trusted people' Women's Group, a women-led alliance within the Abahuzamugabi Ba Kawa Maraba Collective.

    The delicate features of this coffee had us working on developing the soft and sweet nature of its flavour profile, careful not to over or under-develop these delicate features we have found its ultimate sweet spot bringing out rich brown sugar/honeyed sweetness, a super soft body that has notes of mandarin running though this cup, described as "sweet and pretty", with honey blossom fragrance, greenage plum (a Middle Eastern green fruited wild plum known for their confectionery flavours) and mandarin with a tea like body.

    A lovely coffee championing the 34 women farm owners and local farm hands of the Sovu Womens Co-operative, an extraordinary coffee reflective of the extraordinary women of Sovu.
